Sapporo Clock Tower

The Sapporo Clock Tower was built in 1878 as a theatrical hall for the Sapporo Agricultural School, present day Hokkaido University. The official name is "Former Drill Hall of the Sapporo Agricultural College". Being the oldest existing clock tower in Japan, it has since been designated as an important cultural property.

Okurayama Observatory

The Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium was used in the Sapporo 1972 Winter Olympics. Visitors here can enjoy the wide panoramic view at a height of 307 meters above sea level and see the steep slope of the ski jump down below. During warmer seasons, a water sprinkler system is activated over the ski jump, so you might even have a chance to see athletes practicing in the summer!

Asahiyama Memorial Park

Asahiyama Memorial Park was opened in 1970 to commemorate Sapporo's 100th anniversary. The park’s lookout, located 137.5 meters above sea level, offers a beautiful panoramic view of Sapporo, the Sea of Japan, and Ishikari Heiya. At night, the illuminated fountain, back-dropped by the sparkling lights of the office buildings in central Sapporo, create a fantastic nightscape.

Mt. Moiwa Observation Deck

From an altitude of 531 meters, visitors at Mt. Moiwa can enjoy the breathtaking evening cityscape of Sapporo. Voted as one of the three new major night views of Japan, the summit can be reached via a cable car, where a wide panoramic view of the city can be seen below during the day or night.

Moerenuma Park

Moerenuma Park was designed by famed sculpturist Isamu Noguchi as a work of art in itself. You can enjoy art and leisure through all four seasons, from splashing in the water and cooling off in the fountain during summer, to cross-country skiing and playing in the snow during winter.

Former Hokkaido Government Office Building (Red Brick Office)

The Former Hokkaido Government Office was constructed in 1888 and also known by its nickname as the “red brick office.” The building, open to the public, is an example of American neo-baroque architecture, giving visitors a sense of nostalgia.

Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill

Visitors to this popular sightseeing spot in Sapporo can also see the statue of Dr. Clark, considered by many to be the father of Hokkaido. Hokkaido University

Hokkaido University, first opened as the Sapporo Agricultural College in 1876, is an active national post-secondary educational institution in central Sapporo. Sapporo Dome

Sapporo Dome, home to the "Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters" professional baseball team and the "Consadole Sapporo" pro-league football team, is the northern most all-weather events complex in Japan. It is the first stadium in the world equipped with a mechanical system that can transform and switch between a baseball diamond field and football turf.

Hokkaido Shrine

The Hokkaido Shrine was built in 1869, and home to Hokkaido's principal tutelary deities. The area around the shrine is surrounded by beautiful trees, where visitors might have the chance to see wild squirrels. Many worshippers visit here annually, especially during the new year. In June, watch for the exciting Hokkaido Shrine Festival, where a divine palanquin and festival float parades are held on the street, all dancing to the traditional Japanese instruments playing.

Sapporo Maruyama Zoo

As the first zoo to open in Hokkaido in 1951, it is still one of the leading zoos in the prefecture, with over 900 animals across 170 species in its care. The polar bear exhibit opened in March 2018, and a year later, the elephant exhibit debuted, introducing new facilities one after another.
